Climbing Roses

This was the first year since Hurricane Sandy that these roses were back in bloom and looking their best. I was inspired by the afternoon light on their arching branches.  June Climbing Roses, oil painting on linen panel, 12″ x 16″. Painted in plein-air in the entrance to my backyard. I kept thinking “you can’t have the light without the dark”.
